Food and Drink Success Gives Scotland an Economic Boost Food and Drink Success Gives Scotland an Economic Boost 20 Jun 2013 Alasdair Murray The Scottish food and drink industry is flourishing. As recently highlighted in  The Grocer  magazine (1 June 2013), Scotland’s Food and Drink industry is set to reach its target revenue of £12.5 billion by 2015. Since 2007, there has been a staggering 28% increase in Scottish brands being purchased throughout the UK, along with a 63% rise in global exports. Recognising and Rewarding Success The  Scotland Food and Drink Excellence Awards  organised by Scotland Food and Drink and partnered with The Royal Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland, celebrates the best the industry has to offer. On the back of the Scotland Food and Drink Excellence Awards, the Scottish Food and Drink Fortnight will run for two weeks from the 7th  to the 22nd  September. The event is set to provide a new focus on the Scottish food and drink industry, whilst celebrating the outstanding quality of Scotland’s food and drink products. Visit the  Scottish Food and Drink Fortnight  website  to find out more about the event. Another Scottish food and drink brand winning awards is Border Biscuits. Last year they won the  CakesBiscuits Manufacturing Company of the Year  award at the prestigious Food Manufacturing Excellence Awards. Strong year on year growth has led to the company’s expansion, increasing the size of the factory to satisfy increasing demand. The Future The future looks bright for Scotland’s food and drink market. Next year events like the Ryder Cup, the Commonwealth Games and the Visit Scotland “Homecoming” campaign will highlight everything this great nation has to offer. With great brands like Glenmorangie, Nairns Oatcakes, Mackays, St James Smokehouse, Deans, Genius and Macsween of Edinburgh, Scotland is quickly establishing itself as a nation rich with high quality food and drink. Job Opportunities Alasdair Murray, Food, Drink and FMCG Executive Search Consultant at Eden Scott, is delighted with all of the positive news surrounding the Food and Drinks industry. “It’s great to see so many great brands being recognised within the sector. With growing success, this is likely to lead to new career opportunities. A key example is with Simon Howie’s, who have grown from 90 to 105 employees over the last year, and are set to create a further 15 jobs by te end of September.”
